Here is the update from the last Admin Board meeting of March 22, 2011
SHORING PLAN: the work is now underway, but was initially delayed do to information conveyed to us by the City, a decision was made to re-draft the shoring plans. As such, the new plan, which was approved by the City, calls for a crane to be used. Holes will be drilled into the roof of the Center and the trusses (support beams) will be secured to/by the crane so that if any should start to fall they will be secured/held up by the crane. This work has begun and we will keep you posted. The projected time frame for shoring of the structure is 4-6 weeks.
SUPERVISOR OF PROJECT aka CLERK OF WORKS: the building committee has hired Denis Cahill to oversee the day to day operations at the Center. Denis is a PCC member and is in the construction business by trade. He will be in constant contact with the committee to update them on the status of the project. The insurance company will also have their own clerk of works present at the site, Denis will work to ensure the Center's interests are protected during this period.
TEMPORARY LOCATION: we have signed a 6 month lease to temporarily rent out space at 72 Newtown Road in Danbury (its located in the Stop&Shop plaza). We will use this as a temporary location for Kathy & Ana to keep working on our treasury work and events as well as a place to meet and socialize once again. We will have access to the property shortly at which time we will start bringing over tables and chairs. We will keep you posted as to when the location will be open to all our members. A special thank you to all the realtors involved in making this happen & specifically to Ferananda Lopes who worked on this diligently and is not taking a commission for this rental.
PICNICS : the Board as decided that we will not be holding our annual Dia de Portugal and Santos Populares picnics. The Dia de Portugal Parade will still be held as coordianted by David Coelho. Given the Center's current state of flux, we felt it will be best to hold off this year and get back to these great events next year.
MORGAN AVE HOUSE: the house is being demolished to allow for more space during the annual summer picnics. The committee is working on getting all the proper permits to accomplish this task. The long-term goal is to build a permanent structure, such as a pavilion to hold the annual outside events.
DONATIONS: the Board, nor anyone on the Board's behalf, is not soliciting any donations at this time. We of course welcome any and all donations just like we do at any time. Anyone wishing to donate should make checks payable to the PCC & mail them to the Center directly. The costs of our current structural damage is being covered by insurance. Thank You!
INFORMATION/UPDATES: the Board is doing its best to keep you updated and will pass along concrete information as it becomes available to us. In the meantime, we all know information, or mis-information, has a way to make its way around, therefore I am just reminding all that unless the information comes via these updates/emails from the Board you are not to rely on it. Any questions/concerns can always be send directly to firstname.lastname@example.org, we are more than happy to answer/clarify any issue/information for you.
NEXT MEMBER MEETING: will are planning on holding a meeting on Saturday April 16th, 3pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
FINALLY the Building REMAINS CLOSED TO ALL per very specific instructions from the City of Danbury. The only people allowed on the premises are the contractors hired to do the work on behalf of the Center and/or insurance company.
