Dear Members:
By way of an update the Board wanted to inform you that the construction project at our Center is ongoing and currently on schedule.
The structural steel is being installed and the new roof is due to be completed by the end of February, at which time the next phase of the project, the repair work to the interior of the upstairs hall/areas will begin. We are working with a projected end date of April/May but given the many variables involved in any construction project and specifically to our project the fact that we have so many moving parts (the insurance carrier, the bank and all of their people who make up the checks/balances system) at this time we cannot give you an exact date of completion for the whole project. We will continue to update all our members at the monthly member meetings (every 3rd Sunday of the month) and now that we are in full swing with the construction work, we will be more diligent with updating via these other mediums too.
We appreciate all your continued support in our Center and are very anxious to see you all really soon.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
The Center’s Board
BOAS FESTAS

A US Debut! The past few years have been very productive
for Antonio Zambujo, an exceptional Portuguese artist who created
a quiet revolution in the fado world when he won the coveted Amália Rodrigues Foundation's prize for the Best Male Fado Singer.
Portuguese fado is likened to American blues and Greek rembetika for its ability to capture life's hardships with songs of
bittersweet nostalgia and longing or saudade.
Over the past two centuries, fado has evolved from a folk
tradition into an internationally recognized art form, undergoing
several changes along the way.
Zambujo's style, characterized by a sense of tradition
and a keen desire for rejuvenation, brilliantly demonstrates how it can
be both faithful to
the past and eminently contemporary, and has greatly
contributed to the growth of male voices in fado today. Deeply rooted in the luscious chants
of Cante Alentejano – the region from which he hails - Zambujo sings with great soul.
He will be accompanied by will be
accompanied by musical director Ricardo Cruz on double bass, Luis
Guerreiro on Portuguese guitar and Jon Luz on cavaquinho, a small guitar-like instrument mostly used in Brazilian music. |

Unfortunately, due to the weather, we have had to alter
our tournament plans. Although we are not officially canceling the
tournament, players who do not want to play in the rain will have the
option to receive a golf voucher to Ridgewood
Country Club to play at their convenience. Those who do want to play
are welcome to do so, provided the course is open. Please call the
Ridgewood Pro Shop in the morning at 203-743-4491
to confirm that they are open. Representatives from the Scholarship
Committee will be available on-site in the morning to assist.
One way or the other, our tournament dinner with open bar will be held as planned at 3 p.m. at Western Connecticut State University Westside Campus Center Ballroom, catered by the Portuguese Cultural Center. Raffles, prizes and auctions will be held as usual!
Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
